Message from the Director Programmes

Dear Film Fans and Supporters of Amakula International Film Festival,

I take this opportunity to welcome you all to the 12th Edition of Amakula International Film festival happening from the 15th – 17th of March 2019 at the Uganda Museum.

At Amakula, each edition comes with new inventions as well as new content.
We are very proud to bring you an important panel discussion, networking sessions, talk back sessions, a diverse selection of 35 independent Films i.e. 19 Shorts, 7 Documentaries and 9 Features that are representing 17 nationalities as well as reflective of the Amakula Brand.

This year all activities will happen at the Uganda Museum with the day screenings and the Panel discussion inside the Museum’s Exhibition Hall from midday – 7:00pm (free entry) and the evening screenings happening in the Museum’s Gardens from 7:00pm till midnight at UGX 10,000 only.

Unlike last year, we have improved the outdoor experience with a bigger and better LED screen to give you the best Drive-in experience. We do encourage you to drive-in the garden earlier, park your car and secure your headsets to enjoy Film at its best while having a drink and a bite.

If you have no car, feel free to ride in on your bike or even walk in with your blanket. You will enjoy the experience while seated in the garden.

With an increase in the quality and number of Ugandan Films, we’ve also thought of a great way to reward excelling local Filmmakers which is why we have added another category onto the prestigious Golden Impala Awards by having ‘Best Ugandan Feature Film’ and ‘Best non Ugandan Feature Film’. Other categories include; ‘Best Short Film’, ‘Best Student Film’, and ‘Best Documentary Film’. The Award ceremony will happen on Sunday the 17th of March from 6:15pm – 6:55pm.

Once again, welcome to Uganda’s premier independent Film festival.
Eno bweba Amakula, gano makula!
