13th edition of Amakula International Film Festival Postponed to 2021

Bayimba Foundation who are among several other events the presenters of Amakula International Film Festival, hereby announce the postponement of the 13th edition of the festival which was slated to take place on Lunkulu Island, Buikwe/Mukono district from the 19th to 21st of March 2020.

As Uganda’s premier independent Film Festival, it aims to contribute to a vibrant local Film Industry by broadening access to and developing audiences for quality African Film production, inspiring local Filmmakers to produce quality Films based on own stories, facilitating, presenting and promoting local Film productions and offering a professional networking platform for the Filmmaking community within East Africa and beyond. With focus on working with national, regional and international Writers, Directors, and Producers who are currently working on Film projects with an aim of turning their ideas and dreams into reality while working with various key and paramount stakeholders within the various Film sectors to enhance the development of Film in Uganda and the East African region as a whole, it’s unfortunate that the festival won’t happen this year due to the rise in the water levels and the climatic conditions on the island at the moment hindered any further festival preparations. Therefore, more time is required to get Lunkulu set to host the festival early next year.

It’s with great concern and regret that we convey sincere apologies to the Film Fraternity, all those that submitted their works, our partners and sponsors.

To all those that submitted, kindly note that your work(s) will be considered come 2021.
Note: While the 13th Amakula International Film Festival is called off, this will not in any way alter the other annual activities of Bayimba Foundation. For further information contact Keneth Senkungu, Head of Publicity and Media at Bayimba Foundation: media@bayimba.org / keneth@bayimba.org
